DONATE!
Our donors are the lifeblood of our mission, while colony managers are at the heart of our mission. By being a donor, you help ensure that feral cats receive the ongoing care and resources they need.
What We Do
“I’ve trapped, neutered and returned all these cats that I feed every day – and I’m on a subsistence income. Now what?”
Feral colonies require daily feeding and monitoring of the health of the community. Needs include TNR of new colony members but step two is also…
- Cat food daily
- Trapping of any cat needing veterinary assistance. (Some vets don’t accept feral cats.)
- Shelters for inclement weather.
- Paying for the colony care in case of manager illness or vacation.
- Topical flea and tick treatment (no collars are safe for ferals).
This is a real need in the continued ethical care of feral cats. Safe Haven Colony Association is that place for the assistance that is needed in Houston TX.
We offer 4 branches of that service:
- Physical evaluation of the colony 4 times a year.
- Initial evaluation including verifying the behavior of the cats for actual FERAL behaviors
- Unannounced visit to verify the colony wasn’t staged.
- Three remaining quarterly visits with quarterly visits for the year they are using our assistance.
- Contracting for the delivery of food based on the quarterly colony census. If more cats arrive, a physical visit will be required before the increase of food supplies.
- Assistance with other pet care products such as flea control, ear miticide, dewormer and oral vaccines as they are needed and available.
- Help with questions and references that can be useful in feral cat colony management.
We hope that the Trap, Neuter, Return program is not the end of feral cat care but the beginning of humane treatment of cats that are 2nd and 3rd or more generations of dumped cats that have become feral. These colonies will help reduce the rodent vermin in the city making Houston a cleaner and more interesting place.
Help us make this second step to TNR possible.
